Pre-Historic Sites
Court Cairns, Promontory Forts, Ogham Stones, Portal Dolmens from the Neolithic period of Irish History.
On the Comeragh Mountains & Nire Valley Drive the principal pre-historic sites are the standing stones, fulachta fiadh (cooking pits) and cairns around
Kilbrien and Knockboy Ogham Stones near the village. Mothel Abbey (13th c.) near Rathgormack is a noted historic site.
West Waterford
Field monuments in the Dungarvan area include the Gallowshill Mound and perhaps a prehistoric burial mound.
On the Dungarvan & The Coast Drive pre-historic sites include Matthewstown Gallery Grave (circa 2,000 B.C.), near Fenor and Knockeen Portal Dolmen, near
Tramore.The coast has a series of pre-historic promontory forts.
